A free Submagic alternative
Submagic is a popular paid app for viral-style captions. If you like the look but not the monthly bill, BolCaps gives you the core of it for free: AI captions timed to every word, 60 animated styles, automatic Shorts from long videos, and MP4 export with no watermark. It runs in your browser, so your videos stay on your device.

How to do it
- Open the Caption studio and add your clip.
- Press Generate captions. The AI writes and times every word.
- Pick an animated style and highlight color.
- Export the MP4. For long videos, open the editor and choose Long video to Shorts.
What you get free in BolCaps
- Word-by-word AI captions in 90+ languages
- 60 animated caption styles with custom fonts and colors
- Long video to Shorts: finds strong moments and cuts vertical clips
- Script to video with AI voice and visuals
- Noise and music remover for cleaner sound
- SRT, VTT, After Effects and Premiere exports
Where a paid app may still win
BolCaps has no auto-zoom on faces, no built-in B-roll library at Submagic scale, and no team workspace. Big projects are faster on a laptop because the AI runs on your own device instead of a cloud server.
A fair comparison
Paid caption apps are polished and some have features BolCaps does not, such as team workspaces, cloud storage of your projects and AI b-roll from big stock libraries. Plans and limits change often, so check their current pricing page. BolCaps is the better fit if you want captions, styles and exports without a subscription, and if you would rather your video never left your device.
Frequently asked questions
Is BolCaps really free?

Does BolCaps add a watermark?
No. A small "Made with BolCaps" credit is on by default and one tick box removes it.
Can I move my existing captions over?
Yes. Export SRT from your old tool and press Import SRT or VTT in BolCaps.
Is BolCaps connected to Submagic?
No. BolCaps is an independent tool. Submagic is a trademark of its owners.
